Het onderzoeksgebied ‘zorguitkomsten en mortaliteit’ bekijkt de verschillen in klinische uitkomsten, complicaties, mortaliteit en behandelrespons tussen patiënten. De focus ligt op hoe ongelijkheid in determinanten, zorgtoegang en zorgkwaliteit zich vertaalt naar meetbare gezondheidsverschillen. Binnen dit onderzoeksgebied wordt bijvoorbeeld gekeken naar verschillen in mortaliteit, waaronder vroegtijdige sterfte en sterfte in de laatste levensfase. Ook bekijkt dit onderzoeksgebied in hoeverre behandeluitkomsten verschillen, bijvoorbeeld door variatie in complicaties, behandelrespons bij chronische aandoeningen en de effectiviteit van medische interventies. Daarnaast wordt aandacht besteed aan verschillen in ziekenhuisopnames en heropnames.
